Welcome to Maxwell Alexander Drake's Opinions on Writing
I hope to make you laugh, to cry, and perhaps, if I am good enough, to become one of my stalkers

MAD Writing Rules are the rules that I live by. Well, write by, anyway. This is the place to start if you are looking to sink your mental teeth into what I do.

The Publishing Industry is where I discuss things concerning the business of publishing such as contracts, agents, publishing houses, etc.

The Writing Mindset contains my views on mentally approaching writing as a career choice.

Broad Strokes houses topics of *he grins sheepishly* a “broad” nature. Plots, writing styles, character development, etc. are all topics you will find in this section.

Fine Detail is where I get into the nitty-gritty of the craft of writing. Adverbs, POV, Introductory Clauses, and a whole lot more are dissected in this section.

Rewrites is where you will find examples of submitted works that I rewrote. I am not saying mine are better, far from it! However, what better way to see the above topics in action than by looking at the difference between two pieces of literature?

*First and foremost*

This site is not ready for public viewing! I have "some" of it done so feel free to browse what is here. However, my schedule being what it is, I have not had the time I was hoping for to work on this site.

Also, I am in need of material. If you have writing questions, questions about the publishing industry, or would like me to critique and edit a sample of your work, please email me! author (at) maxadrake (dot) com

*Second and foremost* (or, almost)

If you live in or around Las Vegas, I have been enlisted by the Clark County Library to teach a monthly writing class. For times and subjects, check out my schedule.

My name is Maxwell Alexander Drake and I have written professionally for over three years now. My series, the Genesis of Oblivion Saga, has won several awards as well as getting wonderful remarks from both fans and professional critiques alike. During this time, despite my amazing ability to stroll through life without really noticing anything, I continue to learn more and more about the craft of writing and the publishing industry in general.

I have spoken at schools, libraries, and even writers conferences are now inviting me to give classes on the subject of writing. So, I decided to organize my thoughts and hopefully reach out and help others who are traveling down the path of becoming published.

If you are a "sharp" reader, you will notice that I tend not to follow my own advice within the pages of this website. The reason for this is simple. These topics are presented in the same way that I teach a class - in a personal, one on one manner. When I speak, like most people, I do not follow strict writing rules. I have chosen to write this website in that same conversational tone. So, consequently, as you go through this website you will notice that I tend not to follow my own advice on the "correct" way to write. Please, don't send me emails informing me that I used a lot of adverbs during the topic of why adverbs are bad. Or, that I tend to write passively during my topics, even though I preach against writing passively. It is simply how I speak. If you would like to see me following my writing advice, please feel free to read my published works (yea, I'm being all markety now. Hey! I got children to feed!) You can read the first four chapters of my award-winning fantasy saga at www.genesisofoblivion.com. :)

If you have questions, or if you would like a critique and edit on a sample of your own writings, please feel free to send me an email. If you do send me a sample of your writing, make sure you include this release in your email so that I can post it on this website. I will not reference your name nor the title of your work, but I will not edit anything unless you let me throw it up on this site.

One rule before we begin. For the most part, writing is subjectional. Oh, sure, there are many rules in the craft of writing. The funny thing about these rules is that almost all of them can (and are) broken. Keep that in mind as you read through what I have to say. This entire site is filled with my opinions. And, even though they have worked for me, and my fans tend to enjoy the way I write, this does not mean that any of my ramblings here will work for you. Read, learn, and dissect what I have to say on this website. But, try and figure out how it relates to your writing style. Do not blindly follow me. If you do, you are not learning, you are mimicking.

Now that we have an understanding, please choose from the links above to delve deeper into a topic that apparently people think I should share my opinions about.
